DEPARTMENT HEAD Welcome! The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Oregon State University provides comprehensive research, education and outreach programs related to the management and conservation biology of fish and wildlife resources. Our goal is to provide people with the knowledge needed to make wise decisions on issues of conservation, sustainable use, and ecosystem restoration. Our world-renowned faculty conduct research in ecosystems worldwide on species ranging from blue whales to bald eagles. Because of our faculty productivity, our Wildlife Science program was ranked number one in the nation and our Fisheries Science program was ranked number two in a November 2007 report in the Chronicle of Higher Education (http://chronicle.com/stats/productivity). Our unique undergraduate program offers students the ability to design their own area of specialization, and through hands-on classes and internships, we focus on critical thinking, leadership and team-building skills. Our graduate program offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Fisheries or Wildlife Sciences. Graduates from both our undergraduate and graduate programs are ready for exciting careers in fish and wildlife conservation and management and have been very successful in the market place (see our recent survey of graduates) .
