EXTENSION AND OUTREACH Fisheries & Wildlife Extension OSU Extension Programs deliver research-based, objective information to help people solve problems, develop leadership, and manage resources wisely. The Extension Wildlife Program offers the public several ways in which to increase public knowledge concerning wildlife issues, including how to co-exist with wildlife in urban and rural areas and how to protect and create wildlife habitat in your own backyard. The Extension Fisheries Program provides the public with information on fish, fisheries, aquatic habitat and watershed related issues in the State of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Departmental Outreach The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife has a variety of outreach programs that work to improve the quality of education and training by collaborating with community colleges, schools, and state and regional agencies. Several Fisheries and Wildlife faculty members, both on and off campus, participate in developing curricular materials and delivering training for the Watershed Stewardship Education Program. The Watershed Stewardship Education Program provides statewide training and materials to help Oregon's watershed councils, SWCDs, and urban and rural residents understand how watersheds work, and apply this knowledge to watershed assessments, project development, water quality and habitat monitoring. SWEP also aims to assist watershed councils in creating successful groups and partnerships. |
