Background:
The Department
of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Faculty of Science
and Technology at Malaspina University-College (MU-C),
and the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Oregon
State University (OSU) launched a student exchange
program in September 2003. This program allows selected
students at either institution to apply for courses
from the host institution toward their degree. The
exchange program is designed to build on the complimentary
strengths of the two departments, thus broadening
the educational experience of students.
Objective:
The objective of the program is to facilitate the
opportunities for undergraduate students to take courses
at the exchange institution.
Program Strategy:
The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture at MU-C
has a strong program in applied fisheries and aquaculture
that complements the program taught through the Department
of Fisheries and Wildlife at OSU that emphasizes the
conservation and management of fish and wildlife resources.
It is anticipated that the chosen students will broaden
their overall education through this complimentary
exchange.
Duration of Study:
Student exchanges will be based on either a 1 or 2
semester interval (1, 2, or 3 quarters at OSU), depending
on the host institutions offerings and the home institution
requirements.
Qualifications:
The sending institution will nominate potential students.
Students considered will need to have demonstrated
good academic standing (a minimum B average), and
be able to afford the costs of living in another country.
Students must have completed a minimum of two years
of undergraduate study. Students can be nominated
in their junior or senior years for the exchange program.
It is preferred that students transfer to Malaspina
in their senior year.
Fees:
Students will register and pay the required tuition
at their home institution, based on the fees structure
of that university. The home institution will determine
appropriate credit transfer. Books, stationary, transportation,
room/board and all other personal expenditures are
the responsibility of the student.
Student Union memberships or activity fees, and application
fees will be charged at the student's home institution.
OSU students will be responsible for arranging the
necessary travel arrangements and travel documents
(Passports, Visas, etc.), as well as personal liability
and medical insurance needed throughout their stay
in the United States.
