WELCOME!

In 1979, Bob Mace, then deputy director of the Oregon Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, coined the phrase "Watchable Wildlife" and permanently changed the way many people think of small animals and birds, from robins and raccoons to salamanders and frogs. With the growth of the Watchable Wildlife movement in the United States, many state and federal agencies have created programs and designated sites for people to learn about and view wildlife. Unfortunately, there is no central web portal that brings together this information in one place for any state. This web site is devoted to Watchable Wildlife in Oregon. The pages included here provide links to wildlife viewing opportunities in Oregon, a brief history of the watchable wildlife movement, and citizen science programs that Oregon residents can participate.

Wildlife viewing opportunities are continually expanding, so if you are aware of a site or program in Oregon not included on this web page, please contact Bruce Dugger.
