Brook trout

Tyrell DeWeber

Latin name: Salvelinus fontinalis

Brook trout are a very popular game fish and the only native trout throughout much of the eastern U.S., but they are not found in many areas where they once were due to human activities. Tyrell DeWeber worked with states and other partners during his PhD research to help identify suitable habitat throughout the region and to understand vulnerability to future climate warming. His research is being used by various states and partners, including Trout Unlimited, to help guide monitoring and conservation efforts so that future generations can enjoy brookies.
