Mental Health Resources

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS)

Counseling and Psychological Services provides mental health counseling to students, and consultation, outreach and education to all OSU community members.  We do this in order to (1) facilitate student’s academic success, mental health, and personal development and (2) promote a culture of positive mental health at OSU. If you are currently enrolled as a graduate student and pay all health service fees, you have unlimited access to all of CAPS’ resources, including individual and group therapy and drop-in sessions.

In Crisis

If you are thinking about suicide, call CAPS at 541-737-2131 or the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK (8255) now.

CAPS aims to prevent suicide through education, cross-campus collaboration, and providing crisis intervention and resources. Other in-crisis resources offered by CAPS and across campus can be found at the following address: https://counseling.oregonstate.edu/suicide-risk-reduction-program.

National Grad Crisis Line

The National Grad Crisis Line helps graduate students reach free, confidential telephone counseling, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, and information and referral services provided by specially-trained call-takers. Caring, professional staff and well-trained volunteers answer around the clock.

All counselors have completed training to understand the unique issues faced by graduate students. In addition to listening to and empathizing with a caller’s concerns, counselors assess the caller’s lethality risk, counsel, and offer various local support services and mental health resources for follow-up.

Fisheries and Wildlife Graduate Student Association (FWGSA)

FWGSA put together resources that have helped fellow graduate students. Resources include self-assessments, a brief description of CAPS resources on campus and at other locations (such as Hatfield and abroad!), and preventative materials, such as podcasts, TEDTalks, books, and other media. If students know of other resources, or have used some of these resources and want to comment on or review them, please add them! We hope to maintain this as a living document and update it as we find more useful resources from many sources of media.
